Understanding AI Modes
Overview
Torki has four modes. They are the same model with different amounts of thinking and different limits on how much Torki may write in one answer.
What it needs
Pulse and Orbit are included on every plan. Stellar and Cosmos are Premium modes available on Lite, Arc and Zenith.
On Free they show a padlock and clicking one opens the upgrade screen rather than switching modes, so you cannot spend a message by accident.
The four modes
Pulse — Quick responses
The fastest mode, for straightforward questions, quick lookups and short exchanges. It is told to answer in the fewest words that fully solve the problem — a fact usually comes back in a sentence or two, a calculation as just the answer — while still returning complete, working code when you ask for code.
Orbit — Reliable and capable
The default everyday mode. Orbit answers directly rather than reasoning first, and gives thorough, clearly explained responses with step-by-step working where it helps. Great for most general tasks.
Stellar — Deep reasoning
Stellar reasons carefully before answering — breaking down complex problems, weighing approaches and checking its own logic — then delivers a well-analysed answer.
You do not see the raw reasoning. While Torki works you see a Thinking Process list of the stages it is going through, each with its own timer, which folds into a single line you can re-open afterwards.
Cosmos — Maximum depth
Cosmos gives the most comprehensive, detailed responses, analysing from several angles and reasoning the longest before it answers. It also has the largest single-answer budget, so it can write more in one go.
Cosmos does not get a bigger context window. Every mode reads the same amount of your conversation; what changes is how much Torki reasons and how much it is allowed to write.
Get started
1. Open the mode selector
It sits next to the chat input bar, and the menu is headed with your plan — for example "TORKI FREE".
2. Pick a mode
The change applies to your next message. You can switch as often as you like within a conversation.
Which mode should you use?
- Quick facts, short rewrites, simple questions → Pulse
- Most work — drafting, explaining, general coding → Orbit
- Hard problems, careful analysis, tricky debugging → Stellar
- The longest, most thorough answers → Cosmos
FAQ
Does Orbit think before it answers?
No. Orbit answers directly. Stellar and Cosmos are the modes that reason first.
Can I see Torki's reasoning?
Not the raw text. You see the Thinking Process stages and their timers, saved with the message so you can re-open them later.
Why is the mode pill greyed out?
Agent Chain is on. Turn it off from the new-chat screen to pick a mode again.
Does Canvas use my chosen mode?
No. Canvas runs on its own settings whichever mode you have picked.
