Saving Answers as Documents and Spreadsheets
Overview
When Torki writes you a document — a guide, a plan, a report — it can add a document card under the answer, so you can download it as a Word file or open it in Google Docs or Word. Documents and tables that open in the canvas panel have their own Download menu, with PDF and Word for documents and CSV and Excel for tables.
How it works
- Torki answers with a document.
- A card under the answer offers Open in Google Docs, Open in Word and a .docx download.
- You download the file, or send it to Google Docs or Word.
What it needs
Downloads work on every plan, including Free. Opening in Google Docs needs Google connected (every plan). Opening in Word or Excel needs Microsoft 365's OneDrive connected; Microsoft 365 is included from Lite upward.
The document card
Torki adds the card when an answer is a substantial piece of writing: about 1,200 characters or more, or clearly organised under several headings. Short answers and answers that decline a request do not get one, and an answer never gets more than one card.
The card shows the document's title, the first lines of the text and its length, for example "~640 words". Longer documents often open in the canvas panel beside the chat as well.
1. Download it
Click .docx next to Download. The file is named after the document's title.
2. Or open it in Google Docs
Click Open in Google Docs. Torki creates a new Google Doc on your Drive and opens it in a new browser tab. This needs Google Drive & Docs or Google Sheets connected in Toolkit → Connectors — see Connecting Google Drive & Docs.
3. Or open it in Word
Click Open in Word. Torki uploads the .docx to your OneDrive and opens it in Word on the web. This needs OneDrive connected under Microsoft 365 — see Connecting Microsoft 365.
If the app is not connected, Torki tells you to connect it first — "Connect … to open it there — Download & Edit in Torki work meanwhile." — and the card shows a link to Toolkit → Connectors. The download works either way.
Downloading from the canvas
When a document or a table opens in the canvas panel, click Download in the panel's header. The choices depend on what is in the canvas.
A document
- PDF — "Rendered markdown as PDF".
- DOCX — a Microsoft Word document.
- Save to Google Docs — creates a new Google Doc on your Drive and opens it in a new tab.
Save to Google Docs needs the Google Drive & Docs row specifically. Without it the panel shows "Google Drive not connected." If nothing seems to happen, check that your browser did not block the new tab.
A table
A table in the canvas is an editable grid. Its Download menu offers CSV ("The table as it is now, edits included") and Excel (.xlsx) ("Spreadsheet with a bold header row"). A Save to button beside it sends the table to Google Sheets or Excel (OneDrive) and opens it in a new tab.
Getting a table as a spreadsheet
A table written into an ordinary answer does not reliably come with a download. To get one you can download, pick Canvas from the + menu and ask for the table there — for example "A table of 8 cities with their country, population and time zone". The canvas opens with the table as an editable grid; use Download for CSV or Excel, or Save to for Google Sheets or Excel.

Permissions
Open in Google Docs and Google Sheets follow your tool permissions. If Google Docs Create or Google Sheets Create is set to Never in Toolkit → Permissions, the button refuses with "That's switched off in your permissions." and shows an Open Permissions link. See Controlling what Torki can do.
FAQ
Why is there no card under my answer?
The card appears only for longer or clearly sectioned documents, never for a refusal, and never more than once per answer. You can still copy the answer, or ask Torki to write it in the canvas and download it from there.
Does Open in Google Docs update a document I already have?
No. Each click creates a new Google Doc.
Where does Open in Word put the file?
In your OneDrive. It stays there after you close Word.
Do I need to connect anything to download?
No. Downloads work without any connected app.
