Deep Research
Overview
Deep Research is Torki's advanced research mode. Instead of one search and a summary, it breaks your question apart, searches each piece, opens the best pages and writes a cited report from what it actually read.
How it works
- You ask a research question with Research switched on.
- Torki breaks it into several targeted sub-queries — up to six.
- It searches each one independently.
- It fetches and reads full web pages for the most promising results.
- It synthesises everything into a long, cited report.
What it needs
Not included on the Free plan. Lite includes 3 runs per 5 hours, Arc 15, and Zenith 60.
What you have left is shown in Settings → Usage under "Deep research". A Deep Research run also costs one ordinary message on top of the research credit.
Get started
1. Open the Tools menu and choose Research
Click the round + button to the left of the message box — its tooltip reads "Tools" — and choose Research.
2. Confirm the new chat
Torki asks to start a new chat; confirm with Start New Chat. A purple Deep Research chip then sits above the message box and the placeholder changes to "Ask for deep research...".
3. Ask your question and follow along
Type your research question and send it. A Deep Research run takes noticeably longer than an ordinary answer, because Torki searches several times and reads full pages before it writes anything.
Torki shows each step in the Sources panel as it goes — "Analyzing query structure", then "Searching (1/4): …", then "Reading (3/10): …", then "Compiling research report..." — so you can watch it work.
4. Read the report
The finished report will:
- Cover your question from several angles rather than one
- Draw on full pages, not just search snippets
- Name its sources in the text — for example "According to Reuters…" — with each source listed as a clickable card in the Sources panel beside the report
Good to know
The report body itself carries no links, and the Download PDF export does not include the source list. If you need the sources, copy them from the panel before you export.
Deep Research is worth a credit when a question genuinely needs several searches:
- Comprehensive topic overviews that need multiple perspectives
- Market research and competitive analysis
- Academic or technical research requiring depth
- Complex questions a single search cannot answer
- Comparing different viewpoints on a subject
For quick factual questions, an ordinary message costs you nothing extra. Save Deep Research for questions that repay the wait.
FAQ
What happens if I try it on Free?
The send is refused with a message pointing you at Lite. The message credit is spent before the research check runs, so it also costs you one message from your ordinary allowance.
Does the chip stay on for my next question?
No. Research applies to one message. The chip clears as soon as you press Enter, and you pick it again for the next run.
Can I choose which sites it reads?
Not yet. Torki picks the pages itself from what its searches return.
How is this different from ordinary web search?
Ordinary search makes one pass and summarises the results; it is free and automatic. Deep Research makes several passes, opens full pages, and writes a structured report — which is why it costs a credit and takes longer.
Where do I see how many runs I have left?
Settings → Usage, in the beaker labelled "Deep research".
