Making Slide Decks in Chat
Overview
Ask for a presentation in an ordinary chat and Torki builds a designed deck — slide layouts, a colour theme, charts, icons and images — and shows it in the conversation as a deck card. From the card you can download the deck as PowerPoint, PDF or HTML, edit the slides, or open it in Forge.
How it works
- You ask for a deck in a normal message.
- A deck card appears in the conversation and fills in slide by slide.
- When the card says the deck is finished, you download it, edit it, or open it in Forge.
What it needs
Available on every plan, including Free. Each deck uses one Forge build. A Free account holds up to 5 Forge projects in total, and every deck made in chat is one of them. Lite includes 20 Forge builds in a rolling 5-hour window, Arc 60 and Zenith 200.
Get started
1. Ask for the deck
Type the request as you would say it: "Make me a 6-slide pitch deck for a neighbourhood coffee subscription called Daily Grind". Everything in the message becomes the brief, so include the audience, the goal and anything that must be on the slides.
- Slide count — say how many slides you want, from 1 to 20. Without a number you get 8.
- Look — if you want a particular style, name it. The six styles are Modern dark, Executive, Clean minimal, Warm, Bold pitch and Editorial.
Ask in an ordinary message. When Research or Canvas is picked in the + menu, Torki does not build a deck. If you name Google Slides or Google Drive in the message, Torki makes a Google Slides file on your Drive instead — see Connecting Google Drive & Docs.
2. Watch it build
The deck card shows the title, a status line such as "Building your deck — slide 4 of 6" and a thin progress bar. Under that is a large preview of the first slide and a strip of thumbnails; slides that are not built yet show as numbered placeholders.
The deck is built on Torki's servers, so you can leave the chat while it builds. Come back to the conversation and the card picks up where it is.
3. Check the finished deck
When the build is done, the progress bar goes and the status line shows the slide count, for example "6 slides". Click any thumbnail to see that slide in the large preview.
Go by the card. Its status line is what tells you whether the deck is still building or finished.
4. Download it
Click Download and pick a format:
- PowerPoint (.pptx) — a 16:9 deck with editable text and your speaker notes.
- PDF (.pdf) — one page per slide.
- HTML (.html) — a single file that opens in any browser, including offline.
Download and Edit stay greyed out until the deck is finished — their tooltip reads "Available when the deck is finished".
5. Edit it, or open it in Forge
Edit opens the slide editor in a panel beside the chat, where you change text, images, the theme and speaker notes — see Editing slides. Open in Forge ↗ opens the deck as a Forge project, where you can rebuild a slide or the whole deck by describing the change — see Forge.
Good to know
Every deck made in chat is also a Forge project and appears on the Forge page. There is one copy of it: edits you make in the slide editor or in Forge show on the chat card, and every download uses the deck as it is now.
Deleting the deck's project in Forge deletes the deck. The card in the chat then reads "Couldn't load this deck — open it in Forge". On Free, deleting a Forge project is also how you free a place for a new one.
When something goes wrong
- If a deck is taking unusually long, the card stops waiting and reads "Still building — open it in Forge to follow along".
- If the build fails, the card says so — "This deck couldn't be built." or the reason. Any slides that were built before the failure stay usable.
- If a download fails, a line under the buttons reads "Couldn't download the … file" with the reason. Try again or pick another format.
- If you have used your Forge allowance, Torki tells you you've used all of your Forge deck builds for now. On a paid plan the allowance refills as the 5-hour window moves; on Free, delete a Forge project you no longer need.
FAQ
How many slides can I ask for?
From 1 to 20. If you do not say, the deck has 8.
Torki wrote the slides out as text instead of building a deck.
Check that Research or Canvas was not picked in the + menu, then ask again in a new message — for example "Make me a 6-slide deck about…".
Can I get a Google Slides file instead?
Yes. Name Google Slides in the message. That needs Google connected in Toolkit → Connectors, and it creates a Google Slides file rather than a deck card.
Do my edits end up in the download?
Yes. Downloads always use the current version of the deck, including changes made in the slide editor or in Forge.
Can I make another version of the same deck?
Ask again in the chat. Each request builds a new deck and uses another Forge build.
