Overview
Attach a file to a message and Torki reads it — summarising, extracting, explaining or answering questions about what is in it.
What it needs
Included on every plan. The maximum file size is 50MB per file.
Get started
1. Attach the file
Click the round + button to the left of the message box (its tooltip reads "Tools") and choose Add files or photos.
You can also drag files onto the message box — a dashed "Drop files here" overlay appears — or paste an image with Ctrl + V (Cmd + V on Mac). Pasting only works for images; a copied PDF or text file has to be attached or dropped.
There is no paperclip button on the message bar. The paperclip is the icon on the first item inside the Tools menu.
2. Check the chip appears
An attached file shows as a chip above the message box, with its name and size.
3. Ask for what you need, in the same message
"Summarise this", "pull out the dates", "what does this chart show", "turn this table into a list". Send the question together with the file, so Torki reads them together. You can attach more than one file and ask Torki to compare them.
What Torki accepts
- Documents — PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, plain text, Markdown, CSV, JSON and ZIP.
- Images — PNG, JPG, GIF and WebP. Torki looks at the picture and can describe, read or answer questions about it. Other image formats, including SVG, are not accepted.
- Video — MP4, MOV, WebM and M4V.
Spreadsheets
Attach an Excel workbook (.xlsx) or a CSV and ask your question in the same message — "Which region grew fastest this quarter?" Torki reads the rows and answers from them.
An older Excel file in the .xls format attaches, but Torki cannot read what is in it. Save it as .xlsx or CSV first.
For an Excel file, Torki reads one sheet: the one that was open when the file was last saved. It reads the header row and up to 200 rows below it. If your data is on another sheet, or runs longer, save that sheet on its own or split the file before attaching it.

Good to know
Source-code files do not work in an ordinary chat. The picker will let you choose a .js, .py, .php, .html or .css file, but the upload is refused and Torki answers without ever seeing it — with no error shown.
To have Torki read code, paste it into the message, or upload it to a Project. Project uploads do accept source and config files, and their text is available to every chat in that project.
A file over 50MB is dropped silently — no chip appears and no error is shown. If a file simply does not attach, check its size first.
FAQ
I attached a file and Torki ignored it.
Check that a chip appeared above the message box before you sent. No chip means the file was never attached — usually because it is source code or over 50MB.
Torki missed part of my spreadsheet.
It reads one sheet of an Excel file, up to 200 rows. Save the sheet you need on its own, or split a long table across files.
Can I paste a PDF?
No. Pasting only works for images; use the Tools menu or drag and drop.
Can Torki read a scanned document?
It can read text in an image, so a clear scan usually works. A poor scan will give poor results.
How many files can I attach at once?
Several. Ask Torki to compare them and it will read them together.
