Projects
Overview
Projects group related conversations around a shared context. Each project can hold custom instructions and knowledge files that every chat inside it can draw on.
How it works
- You create a project and give it a name.
- You add custom instructions, knowledge files, or both.
- You start chats from that project's page, and they inherit its instructions and files.
- Those chats live on the project's Chats tab rather than in your sidebar.
What it needs
The Free plan holds 3 projects and Lite holds 15; Arc and Zenith have no set limit.
Get started
1. Open Projects
Click Projects in the sidebar, or press Ctrl + P / Cmd + P. That opens the Projects page — it does not create anything.
2. Create the project
Click New project at the top right of that page. Give it a name and, if you like, a description and colour.
3. Add instructions and files
Custom instructions are the things you would otherwise repeat every time — the tone to use, the stack you are working in, the audience you are writing for. Every chat started inside the project picks them up.
Knowledge files go the same way: upload documents and their text is available to every chat in the project. This is also the reliable way to get Torki to read source code, because project uploads accept source and config files that an ordinary chat attachment will not.
4. Start a chat inside the project
Use the New chat button on the project's Chats tab. A chat started that way belongs to the project; a chat started anywhere else is an ordinary chat, even if you were just looking at the project a moment ago.
Good to know
If you are already at your plan's project limit, the create dialog closes without creating anything and without showing an error. If a new project simply does not appear, that is why — delete one or upgrade.
Project chats do not appear in the sidebar's chat list. That list shows only your chats outside any project. To find a conversation you had inside a project, open the project and use its Chats tab, or use search (Ctrl + K), which does look inside project chats — see Chat history & search.
When a conversation does belong to a project, a breadcrumb above the messages says so.
FAQ
How do I tell whether a chat is in a project?
Look above the messages. A project chat carries a breadcrumb with the project's name; an ordinary chat does not.
Can I move an existing chat into a project?
Yes — open the ⋯ menu on it in the sidebar and choose Add to Projects.
Do project files count against my uploads?
They are stored with the project rather than with a message, and every chat in the project can read them.
What happens to my projects if I downgrade?
The projects you already have stay. You just cannot create new ones past the lower plan's limit.
