Pick Research for one message and Torki breaks your question into several searches, opens and reads the pages, then writes a structured report with its sources beside it.
Deep Research needs Lite or above — Free has none — and on Free, picking "Research" and pressing Enter still spends one of your 25 messages before the upgrade modal appears. Lite runs 3 per 5 hours, Arc 15 and Zenith 60, and each run costs one research credit and one message on top. What does work on Free: ask an ordinary question and Torki will search the web when it needs to, and the sources land in the same panel under the same "Sources (N)" pill. Deep Research is the version you switch on deliberately: it splits your question into several searches instead of guessing one, always runs them, and shows you each search and each page as it reads.
Most of the time you ask Torki a question and it answers. The report arrives in the chat and the pages it used arrive in a panel on the right.
How it works, step by step
Pick Research from the Tools menu
In a chat, click the + button to the left of the composer — its tooltip reads Tools

Ask it as a plain question
Type the question and press Enter; Shift+Enter makes a new line instead. Keep it phrased as a question — wording like give me a picture of the EV market
is read as an image request and the whole turn becomes image generation, with the research run already spent. A plain interrogative works: What has changed in EU EV subsidy policy this year?
Watch the run in the Sources panel
A panel slides in from the right and reports the run while it happens. Its header reads Sources
with 0 results
beside it and its body stays empty for the whole run, while a four-segment bar fills from the left and a single line of text changes under it: Analyzing query structure

, then Reading (3/10): <page title>
, then Compiling research report...
. The chat bubble beside it shows only the usual Thinking Process timeline, so the real progress is all in the panel.
The cards land all at once
Nothing appears in the panel until the pipeline finishes; then every card arrives together and the count jumps from 0 results
to the number Torki kept. Each card carries a favicon, the page title, two lines of snippet, the domain and a badge reading WEB, NEWS or WIKI. The muted line under the header, Results for …
, lists the searches Torki ran — not the question you typed.
Read the report, and the pill that stays
The report streams into the chat as markdown. Torki is asked to open with a bold Executive Summary of two or three sentences, organise the middle under themed headings, close with a bold Key Takeaways list, and name its sources in prose rather than pasting links — so nothing in the answer body is clickable. When the stream ends, a purple pill appears under the answer reading Sources (N)
with a books icon and the tooltip View research sources

Research
is never greyed out in the + menu. You pick it, type, press Enter, and only then a message appears over the chat saying deep research is not included on Free and offeringUpgrade to Lite

Torki is instructed never to paste raw URLs and to credit its sources in the sentences instead, so nothing in the answer body is clickable. Every link lives on a card in the panel, reachable from the

Once a research run has happened, the panel's × does nothing and its last progress line sits beside the finished report. It goes away when you send your next message or start a new chat.
