This works on a Free account, which is what the sign-up button creates. Each turn costs one message from the Free allowance of 25 messages in a rolling 5-hour window, and attaching the file does not cost a message of its own.

You can put a file into the chat composer and ask about it in the same message. Torki reads the file on the turn you attach it, then answers in the thread like any other reply. The walkthrough below is the whole flow, including the two places it will surprise you: file types the picker offers but the upload refuses, and follow-up questions that no longer see the document.

How it works, step by step

Attach the file

In the composer, click the round + button (tooltip Tools) and choose Add files or photos. You can also drag the file onto the composer box itself, which shows a dashed purple overlay reading Drop files here — the composer is the only drop target, so dropping the file anywhere else on the page hands it to your browser to open and you lose the chat. An image can also be pasted with Ctrl/Cmd+V anywhere on the page, but pasting is images only: a copied PDF does nothing.

Check the chip before you send

Each file appears as a chip above the text box: a thumbnail for images or a tinted file icon otherwise, the file name, the size (2.4 MB), a · VIDEO tag on video, and an X that removes it. Nothing has been uploaded yet — that happens when you send. A file larger than 50MB never reaches the tray and no message says why, so a file that produces no chip is a file that was too large.

Type your question and press Enter

The composer clears, your message appears on the right with a square tile per file, and the Thinking Process timeline runs — in Orbit the rows read Understanding your question, then Reasoning through this. There is no file-specific row, no progress row and no confirmation anywhere that the file was read: the first sign Torki read it is the answer. Send files with no words and Torki asks itself Please analyze these files.

Read the answer in this turn

Ask everything you need here. Torki does not re-open the file on later turns — follow-ups are answered from the conversation so far, so anything the first answer did not cover needs the file attached again. If a file could not be read, Torki says so in its reply; nothing is marked on the chip or the tile.

Open a tile to see the file

An image tile opens straight away in a lightbox. A document or video tile in the conversation you just sent reads Loading… and does not respond to clicks — re-open the chat from the sidebar, or reload the page, and the same tile reads Click to view and opens a preview overlay carrying the file name, a Download button and an X. PDFs show in an embedded frame, images are fitted to the panel, video gets playback controls.

Before you start

The things people hit on their first try, so you do not have to find them the hard way.

  • What it accepts, and what the picker wrongly offers

    Images PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP; video MP4, MOV, WebM and M4V; documents PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TXT, CSV, Markdown and JSON. 50MB per file. The picker also offers audio (MP3, WAV, M4A), source and web files (.js, .ts, .py, .php, .html, .css, .xml, .yaml, .c, .cpp, .go, .rs, .swift, .java) and .rar, .tar and .gz — all of which are refused after you send. Nothing on the chip or the tile marks the refusal; you learn about it from Torki's reply, which tells you it could not read the file. A .zip is offered and goes through, but nothing in Torki reads inside an archive, so do not expect an answer about what is in one.

  • Follow-ups do not re-read the file

    The file is read once, on the turn you attach it. From the second turn on, Torki answers from the conversation so far rather than from the document, so a follow-up like what does page 14 say? has nothing to work from. Put everything you need into the first message, or attach the file again with the next question.

  • Scanned PDFs, and what a spreadsheet gives you

    There is no text recognition for scanned pages, so a PDF made only of page images has nothing readable in it and Torki will say so. A spreadsheet is read first sheet only and roughly the first 200 rows, and formula cells come from the values saved in the file, so a workbook saved without them arrives blank. Long documents are truncated.

  • Phrasing to avoid with an image attached

    With an image attached, wording such as make this, turn this, convert this, or any phrase containing into a, routes the message to image editing and returns a generated picture instead of an answer. Ask what does this screenshot show? or list the rows in this table instead.
