Build a slide deck and export it

Describe a deck in one sentence, rebuild the slides that need it, then download the deck as a PDF, a PowerPoint file or an HTML page.

Free — every step on this page works on a Free account, export included. The limit to know about is how many Forge projects a Free account holds at once: five. At five, creating the next one fails, and Forge raises no upgrade prompt — you get the plain toast "Could not create the project. Please try again." Delete a project from the Forge home page and the slot comes back.

Forge is where Torki builds things, and it carries a BETA badge in the app. A deck starts with one sentence, a slide count and a style preset, and comes back as a strip of 16:9 slides on a canvas. From there you rebuild single slides, edit the speaker notes Torki has already written, set the order, and export the deck as a file.

How it works, step by step

Open Forge, choose Slide Deck

In the signed-in app, click Forge in the left sidebar — the row carries a BETA badge. The page opens on the eyebrow Forge · Beta above the heading What do you want to build?, with a composer under it. Click the Slide Deck chip on the composer's foot row, between Prototype and a Document chip marked Soon, and two more chips appear: 8 slides and Modern dark.

Set the count and the style

Click the 8 slides chip: the popover offers 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 18 and 20 in one click, with − and + buttons for anything in between, down to 3 and up to 20. Click the Modern dark chip for the six style presets — Modern dark, Executive, Clean minimal, Warm, Bold pitch and Editorial — each row carrying three colour swatches, the preset's name and a short line on the feel it aims for. If the deck is aimed at a particular room, open Add brief details and fill any of Audience, Tone, Brand and Scale (120 characters each); those four apply to this first build only, not to later tweaks.

Type the deck and press Build

Describe the deck in a sentence and press Build; the button stays disabled until the box has text, and ⌘↵ sends it too. The project is created and the build starts on its own — the canvas is covered by a dashed skeleton frame with a counter reading Building slide 3 of 8, up to the count you set, and the bar at the bottom reads Building your deck — keep working elsewhere. The finished 16:9 slides frame into view as a left-to-right strip once the whole deck is done, rather than appearing one at a time.

Rebuild a single slide

Click a slide on the canvas. It takes a selected outline, and a small Tweak this slide hint with a T badge appears at its top-right corner. Now click into the bottom bar, or press T: a two-button switch appears above the bar with This slide already selected and Entire deck beside it. Leave it on This slide, describe the change, and send — that one slide is rebuilt and the new version replaces the old one on the canvas.

Fix the notes and the order

With a slide selected, a rail of icon-only buttons appears at the right edge of the canvas; hover them and two of the labels read Reorder and Notes. Notes opens Speaker notes on a paragraph Torki has already written for that slide, behind the placeholder What to say while this slide is on screen…; your edits save on their own, and there is no save button. Reorder opens Reorder slides in the same place, where dragging the chips only stages the new order — the panel says Drag chips or use arrows. Save to commit, Esc to cancel., so click Save order or the deck keeps the order it had.

Export the deck

Click Export in the workspace header. The modal Export design opens on four format cards with PDF / Printable 16:9 deck selected; the PPTX and HTML cards work as well, while the fourth card, Images, carries a Soon pill and does not. Set Filename and click Download — a toast confirms with Downloaded and the file name.

Before you start

The things people hit on their first try, so you do not have to find them the hard way.

  • With no slide selected, a tweak rebuilds the whole deck

    The scope switch — This slide against Entire deck — only appears once you have clicked a slide. With nothing selected it is not shown at all and the scope is already set to the whole deck, so typing into the same bottom bar and pressing Enter hides the deck you have and builds a new one from your new sentence. There is no undo and nothing warns you first. Click the slide you mean before you type, and check the switch says This slide.

  • A tweak replaces the slide, and there is no way back

    Rebuilding one slide swaps in a fresh version of it, speaker notes included, and Forge has no revert — only the newest version of a slide ever renders on the canvas. Get the slide itself right first, then write the notes you want to keep.

  • What the downloaded file actually holds

    In PowerPoint or Keynote the body of each slide arrives as a picture, so the words on the slide cannot be edited there — only the speaker notes cross over as real, editable notes text. Pictures Torki generated onto a slide do not come through in the PDF, the PPTX or the HTML, though charts and illustrations do, so this path suits decks that carry their weight in type. The HTML file fetches its fonts over the network, so it is not an offline copy of the deck. An export can also fail outright instead of downloading: the toast then starts Could not export PPTX for whichever format you picked, and you try again or take another one.

  • Images you attach inside a deck project are dropped

    The + button sits on the bottom bar inside a deck project, but an image attached there is dropped without a message when you send with This slide or Entire deck selected — the rebuild goes ahead on your words alone. Everything visual in the deck comes from the sentence you typed and the style preset you chose.
